Travel Safety Campaign Urges Christmas Party Goers to Plan Ahead

Increased Alcohol Consumption During Festive Season

As Christmas approaches, the festive spirit is in the air, and with it comes the temptation to indulge in a few extra drinks. Recent research has shown that over half of Brits tend to increase their alcohol intake in December, with nearly a third noticing the same trend among their friends, family, and colleagues. This surge in alcohol consumption during the holiday season raises concerns about road safety, especially when it comes to getting home safely after festive gatherings.

Trainline Launches Safety Campaign

To address these concerns and promote responsible drinking habits, Trainline has initiated a targeted advertising campaign aimed at reminding and encouraging the public to plan ahead and secure a safe travel option for their journeys home during the festive period. This campaign, supported by the Government road safety campaign THINK!, involves a widespread distribution of ads across various platforms, including out-of-home displays and in-app advertisements on the Trainline app.

Focus on High-Risk Areas

The campaign targets party-goers in 14 major cities across the UK, with a particular emphasis on regions where the Department for Transport has identified a higher rate of alcohol-related casualties, such as the East Midlands and Wales. By raising awareness in these areas, Trainline hopes to reduce the number of road incidents caused by drink driving and promote the use of safer transportation options, such as trains.

Expert Insight and Call to Action

Pete Wade, Chief Commercial Officer of Trainline, emphasised the importance of planning ahead and making responsible travel choices to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season. Additionally, Lilian Greenwood MP, Minister for the Future of Roads, reiterated the significance of staying safe during celebrations and encouraged the public to utilise public transport to prevent drink-driving accidents.

As we gear up for the festive party season, let’s remember to prioritise safety and make informed decisions about our travel arrangements. By planning ahead, booking a safe transport option, and avoiding the risks associated with drink driving, we can all contribute to a safer and happier holiday season for everyone. So, let’s raise a glass to responsible celebrations and ensure that our journeys home are merry and bright!
