Mahek Bukhari, a 22-year-old aspiring TikTok influencer from Stoke-on-Trent, found herself in the midst of a shocking murder case that captivated the nation. Alongside her mother, Ansreen, Mahek was convicted of a double murder that stemmed from a high-speed car chase. The case unfolded over 75 days in court, revealing a modern tale of social media, sex tapes, and betrayal.
Mahek, who had amassed over 160k followers on TikTok, dropped out of university to pursue her influencing career, often featuring her mother in her videos. Ansreen, on the other hand, was engaged in a three-year affair with 18-year-old Saqib Hussian. When Ansreen decided to end the relationship in January 2022, Saqib threatened to release intimate photos and videos of her, prompting Mahek to concoct a plan to stop him.
With the help of friends and acquaintances, Mahek orchestrated a meeting with Saqib in a Tesco car park, under the guise of paying him off. However, the encounter quickly turned deadly as a high-speed chase ensued, resulting in the tragic deaths of Saqib and his friend, Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin.
Following the crash, Mahek, her mother, and their accomplices were arrested and later convicted for their roles in the murders. Mahek received a sentence of 26 years and 9 months, while her mother was sentenced to 31 years and 8 months. The other individuals involved in the crime received varying sentences, with some being found guilty of manslaughter.
Despite their convictions, reports have surfaced that Mahek is planning to appeal her sentence, indicating a continued legal battle in the aftermath of the trial.
