San Diego Comic-Con 2024 has started, and fans are already noticing exciting announcements at the convention. A video game enthusiast spotted branding that hints at a remaster of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2. The branding was seen at the convention, featuring statues based on the Legacy of Kain series alongside a sign that read “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered.”

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was originally released in 1999 for the PS1 and PC, while its sequel, Soul Reaver 2, came out in 2001 for PS2 and PC. These games are part of the dark fantasy action RPG series that has been dormant for many years. The last installment, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, was released in 2003 for PS2, PC, and Xbox.

Although Crystal Dynamics has not officially confirmed the remaster of these games, fans are hopeful for the franchise’s return. In October 2022, Crystal Dynamics conducted a survey asking fans if they would like to see a new game in the Legacy of Kain series. The survey received an overwhelming 100,000 responses, indicating strong interest in the franchise’s revival.

Recently, Crystal Dynamics and Bit Bot Media announced a prequel graphic novel titled Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver—The Dead Shall Rise. However, the release date for the graphic novel is still unknown. The anticipation for new content in the Legacy of Kain universe is high, with fans eagerly awaiting any news of a potential new game or remaster.

In a review of the original Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, IGN praised the game for taking elements of the horror genre and enhancing them. Despite a cliffhanger ending, the game was well-received and remains a favorite among players.
