The NSPCC and Newsquest have joined forces this Christmas to raise funds for children in need. As the festive season approaches, children are filled with excitement and wonder about Santa and presents. However, for many children, this time of year is not all joy and happiness.
Childline counsellors receive a call from a child every 45 seconds, seeking help and support for issues like abuse and loneliness. The NSPCC Christmas campaign is urging readers to donate £20 to Childline to ensure that these children get the assistance they need during the holidays.
Sir Peter Wanless, Chief Executive of the NSPCC, highlighted the importance of supporting children who may be struggling this Christmas. Last year alone, almost 5,500 counselling sessions were provided by Childline to children in need. This partnership with Newsquest Media Group aims to raise awareness and vital funds to help Childline counsellors support children during this challenging time.
For those who prefer to donate toys or gifts, an Amazon wish list has been created to make it easier to contribute to the cause. Every donation, whether monetary or in-kind, can make a significant difference in a child’s life.
In addition to the Childline service, NSPCC hubs across the country are also in need of toys and games for young service users. These items help create a safe and welcoming environment for children to open up and feel comfortable during their sessions with NSPCC practitioners.
Rebecca Wilcox, a Childline counsellor and Deputy President, emphasised the importance of donations to train volunteers who play a crucial role in supporting children in need. Despite the challenges faced by many families, any contribution towards charities like Childline can make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.
By coming together and supporting initiatives like the NSPCC Christmas campaign, we can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children this holiday season. Your generosity can bring hope and joy to those who need it most, ensuring that every child has a safe and happy Christmas. Let’s spread some festive cheer by giving back to our community and supporting those in need.
