A mother who was stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival has tragically passed away.

The incident was reported to the police around 6pm on Sunday, August 25, on Goldborne Road. The woman, identified as Cher Maximen, received medical assistance from the police before paramedics arrived. She was then taken to the hospital in critical condition and sadly died this morning, on Saturday, August 31.

Following the stabbing, an investigation was initiated, leading to the arrest of Shakiel Thibou, a 20-year-old from Masbro Road. Thibou was charged with attempted murder and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 28. He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 25.

Due to Cher’s death, the case will be reviewed in collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service. Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila expressed condolences to Cher’s family and assured ongoing support from specialist officers. He mentioned that Cher was at the Carnival with her young child, and efforts are being made to ensure the child’s safety and welfare.

Commander Charmain Brenyah, representing the Met for Carnival, described Cher’s death as devastating for her family, the community, and all involved in the Carnival. She emphasized that the Carnival aims to unite people in a positive celebration, and the tragic loss of life, along with other violent incidents, has cast a shadow over the event.
