Winter Wonderland Brightens Up West Drayton Care Home and Neighbours
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Care UK’s The Burroughs in West Drayton has transformed its garden into a magical Winter Wonderland for residents and neighbours to enjoy. The twinkling lights and festive decorations have brought joy and cheer to all who visit.
Residents Take the Lead
Residents and their families played a crucial role in the planning and creation of this enchanting display. Working closely with the care home team, they shared their ideas and memories to make sure that the Winter Wonderland truly captured the spirit of the season. From Santa’s grotto to penguins and igloos, every detail was carefully considered to bring smiles to everyone’s faces.
Bringing Christmas to Those Who Cannot Leave
Alison Belghar, activity lead at The Burroughs, and maintenance lead Andrew Simpson spearheaded the initiative to create the Winter Wonderland. Their motivation stemmed from a desire to ensure that all residents could experience the magic of Christmas, even if they were unable to venture out to see traditional light displays and markets. This thoughtful gesture has truly made a difference in the lives of those living at The Burroughs.
Official Unveiling by the Mayor
The festive scene was officially unveiled by Cllr Colleen Sullivan, the Mayor of Hillingdon, in a ceremony that brought together residents, staff, and members of the local community. The Mayor’s presence added an extra touch of magic to the occasion, highlighting the importance of coming together during the holiday season.
Home manager Loreen McGeoghan expressed her delight at seeing the Winter Wonderland come to life, stating, “We are enjoying having our very own light display in the home’s gardens – it looks phenomenal!” The joy and excitement radiating from all those involved in this project truly encapsulate the spirit of Christmas and the power of community unity.
