OnePlus has recently launched the OnePlus Watch 2R, marketed as a sporty and long-lasting Wear OS watch aimed at promoting an active lifestyle. While the original OnePlus Watch 2 received criticism for its inaccurate health data, particularly in step counts and activity tracking, I decided to put the new Watch 2R to the test.

During my fitness test with the OnePlus Watch 2R, I compared its accuracy to my Garmin Forerunner 965 for heart rate and dual-band GPS accuracy. The results of my test showed that the Watch 2R performed relatively well in terms of heart rate monitoring and GPS accuracy, staying mostly on track with the Garmin Forerunner 965.

In terms of running dynamics, the OnePlus Watch 2R provided detailed data on metrics such as stride length, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time. While there were some discrepancies between the data from the Watch 2R and the Garmin Forerunner 965, overall, the Watch 2R performed admirably for a budget fitness watch.

One area where the OnePlus Watch 2R could improve is in its step counting accuracy, as it was slightly off compared to the Garmin Forerunner 965. Additionally, the Watch 2R underreported burned calories, but this discrepancy is not uncommon among different smartwatch brands.

Despite some minor issues, the OnePlus Watch 2R offers compelling features such as a Snapdragon W5 CPU, 500mAh battery, dual-band GPS, NFC tap-to-pay, and Google Assistant integration. It provides detailed post-run metrics and is a more affordable option compared to its predecessor, the Watch 2.

In conclusion, while the OnePlus Watch 2R may not be perfect, it represents a solid choice for casual athletes and fitness enthusiasts looking for an affordable Wear OS fitness watch. With its impressive features and performance, the Watch 2R has the potential to compete with other budget-friendly smartwatches on the market.
