The Hillingdon Council’s Learn Hillingdon Adult and Community Education programme for 2024/25 is now available, offering a wide range of part-time day and evening courses for residents aged 19 and above. These courses aim to help individuals gain new skills, prepare for work or promotion, or even obtain a qualification.
In addition to traditional academic courses, the programme also includes creative and social sessions such as art, sewing, fashion, photography, flower arranging, and languages. These options are not only affordable but are also available at Hillingdon’s three adult education centres, in the community, and online, with many courses being fully funded.
For those interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and caregiving, there are courses available to help individuals progress in professions such as community mental health, residential care, home-based care, and health support services. Moreover, individuals looking to work with children can explore career paths as early years’ practitioners in nurseries or pre-schools, or in support roles in primary and secondary schools.
A notable addition to this year’s programme is the introduction to childminding course, designed to prepare individuals to set up a home-based childcare setting, register with Ofsted, and create a business plan. Furthermore, there are specialized courses available for Adults with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (ALDD), with dedicated staff providing support throughout the learning process.
One success story from the programme is Hatice Cavus, a 41-year-old from Ruislip. After working as a finance manager in Turkey, she moved to the UK with her family and decided to pursue a career as a teaching assistant. She began with the Preparing to Work in Schools Level 1 course, followed by the Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2 course. By completing the Safeguarding and Prevent Level 2 course, she eventually received a job offer from a primary school.
