A significant event took place in Hayes last Friday, marking a key milestone in the construction of new homes in the area. The topping-out ceremony, a tradition in the building industry, celebrated the placement of the final beam in the new structures being erected in two housing estates in Hayes.

This ceremony is not just a symbolic gesture; it represents progress towards the completion of the new homes that will soon be available to the residents of Hillingdon. The first phase of the project will see the creation of 110 new homes, with 80 located in the Hayes Town Centre estate and an additional 30 at Avondale Drive. Once completed, the entire project aims to deliver a total of 740 new homes, half of which will be affordable housing, along with public spaces for the community to enjoy.

The presence of Hillingdon Council’s leader, Cllr Ian Edwards, along with other council members and representatives from Higgins Partnerships, at the ceremony highlights the importance of this project for the local community. Cllr Steve Tuckwell emphasised the council’s commitment to providing affordable housing, recognising the high demand for such properties in the area.

Aside from the new homes, the redevelopment project also includes the construction of a new community centre at Hayes Town Centre, replacing the existing one. This addition will further enhance the facilities available to residents in the area, promoting community engagement and social interaction.

While the first phase of the redevelopment is scheduled to be completed by autumn 2025, the entire project is expected to run for seven to nine years in total. This long-term commitment demonstrates the council’s dedication to meeting the housing needs of the local population and creating a sustainable living environment for years to come.

Overall, the topping-out ceremony signifies not just the progress made in the construction of new homes but also the positive impact that these developments will have on the community. As the project continues to unfold, residents can look forward to a brighter future with improved housing options and enhanced community facilities in Hayes.
