A violent machete fight that occurred at Southend Seafront in Essex has led to a 16-year-old boy facing attempted murder charges. The incident involved several teenagers and took place on a Tuesday evening, resulting in a court appearance for the young individuals involved.

During the court proceedings at Chelmsford Magistrate’s Court, the 16-year-old boy, whose identity cannot be disclosed, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to cause serious injury, possession of a prohibited weapon in a public place, and violent disorder. Deputy Senior District Judge Tan Ikram ordered him to be placed in youth detention, with a preliminary hearing scheduled at Basildon Crown Court on September 2.

According to Prosecutor Godfried Duah, a machete and a large knife were observed during the altercation on the crowded seafront, which was bustling with families enjoying the summer holiday sunshine. Subsequently, the police confiscated several weapons, including knives and a gun.

In addition to the 16-year-old, other teenagers faced various charges related to the violent incident. A 14-year-old boy was charged with violent disorder, wounding with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon, leading to his placement in youth detention as well.

Furthermore, a 17-year-old boy faced charges of violent disorder, wounding with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon. All child defendants were remanded in youth detention, with their upcoming hearings scheduled at Basildon Crown Court on September 2.

The court proceedings also involved 18-year-old individuals, including Michael King from South Woodford, Mekai Brown from South Woodford, and Tyler Omo-Irogho from Watford, Hertfordshire. They faced charges of violent disorder, wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, and assaulting an emergency worker. All the 18-year-olds were remanded in custody and were ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing at Basildon Crown Court on September 2.

Additionally, a 16-year-old boy charged with violent disorder, wounding with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon is yet to be addressed in court.
