A man was taken into custody after an incident in London’s Leicester Square where both an 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman were stabbed, according to the Metropolitan police. The two victims were transported to the hospital for treatment. The man is believed to be the only suspect involved in the attack.
The 11-year-old girl’s injuries were determined to not be life-threatening, while the woman suffered less severe injuries. A security guard named Abdullah, 29, recounted how he intervened in the situation by jumping on the assailant and disarming him of the knife. He, along with some colleagues, provided immediate first aid to the victims before the police arrived at the scene.
Abdullah, who has been working in security at the TWG Tea shop for the past several months, shared his account of the events that unfolded. He mentioned that his primary concern was to save the young girl who was being attacked, stating that it was his duty to protect and assist in such situations.
Following the incident, a police cordon was established near the TWG Tea shop on Leicester Square. The area was surrounded by at least six police officers, with families and tourists continuing to queue up at nearby stores. The police confirmed that the arrested suspect is currently in custody and that there are no other suspects being pursued.
Both the 11-year-old girl and the 34-year-old woman were taken to a major trauma center for further medical attention, as reported by the London ambulance service. The service responded to the scene promptly after receiving reports of the stabbing and dispatched necessary medical personnel to provide aid to the victims.
Authorities have clarified that, at this point, the incident is not believed to be linked to terrorism. Investigations are ongoing to gather more information and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. The police are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals involved in the incident.
