It’s always disappointing when a promising game fails to deliver on its full potential due to poor performance. We missed out on seeing Marvel’s Avengers’ Kree invasion storyline with Captain Marvel and She-Hulk, and now, the long-term vision for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is beginning to take shape with the launch of season 2.

Initially, there was backlash against the idea of the Suicide Squad taking on the Justice League, especially since they were meant to kill corrupted versions of iconic heroes, including an unfortunate encounter where Harley Quinn executed the Batman from the Arkham trilogy.

However, a plot twist has emerged. Spoiler alert: at the end of season 2’s first part, it is revealed that The Flash is actually alive – the real Flash. It turns out that the Justice League clones we were fighting were not the original members, but copies, while the real heroes are being held captive.

So, the rumors have been confirmed – the focus of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has shifted to saving the Justice League instead of eliminating them. The fate of other cloned heroes like Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman remains uncertain, but it seems Wonder Woman, in her uncorrupted form, was killed by a clone Superman.

This revelation also opens up the possibility of bringing back Batman, with the potential for more voice work from Kevin Conroy, who may be free from Braniac’s control. While this direction is intriguing, there are some issues that need to be addressed.

For starters, introducing this storyline in season 2 of the live game seems rushed. The main game should have built up to the reveal that the goal was to rescue the real Justice League, rather than leaving players with a vague ending about defeating more Braniac clones in other worlds. Additionally, the lack of continuity with season 1’s Joker content is a disconnect from the main narrative.

Furthermore, it is unlikely that the full potential of this storyline will be realized, as Suicide Squad has indicated that they will wrap up this year’s content and move on. Trying to squeeze in such a complex concept into a few more cutscenes may not do justice to the narrative. Despite the spike in player count on Steam after the launch of season 2, the lack of audience engagement suggests that the story may not reach its intended audience.

It’s a shame to see what could have been, but for more updates, you can follow the writer on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Don’t forget to check out their sci-fi novels, the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy for more thrilling adventures.
