QPR has officially signed French midfielder Jonathan Varane for a fee of £875,000 from Spanish club Sporting de Gijón. Varane, who is 22 years old, had three years left on his contract but was not in favor at his previous club, making him available for transfer.
In addition to Varane’s signing, QPR is looking to secure a loan deal for left-back Owen Beck from Liverpool. This move comes as there are uncertainties surrounding the future of Kenneth Paal, whose contract with QPR is set to expire. If Paal does not agree to a new deal, the club is considering selling him and bringing in Beck or Gianluca Frabotta from Juventus as a replacement. Beck, a Wales Under-21 international, has previously been on loan at Dundee and Bolton.
Marti Cifuentes, the head coach of QPR, emphasized the importance of managing players in the final year of their contracts to avoid losing them for free. He mentioned that although Paal is a valuable player for the team, it is crucial to maintain financial stability by making strategic decisions regarding player contracts.
Cifuentes stated, “We as a club cannot afford to have players that are in the last year of their contract and still being an important asset for the club. So we need to find this balance between continuity and keeping good financial health. That being said, Ken is a very good player. I think he has been showing that since my arrival, and I’m very happy with him.”
