The Kayak Cross (X1) Canoe Slalom event is about to start. We are getting closer to the end of the canoe slalom kayak cross events with the quarter-finals for both men and women about to begin. Mallory Franklin and Kimberley Woods are representing Team GB in the women’s event. Franklin, who won silver in the C1 event in Tokyo three years ago, has an impressive record of seven world and seven European championships in various events, including the kayak cross in 2022. On the other hand, Woods participated in the 2020 Olympics but did not win a medal, finishing 10th in the K1 event. However, she already secured a bronze medal at Paris 2024 in the women’s K1.
In the men’s event, Joe Clarke, the current kayak cross world champion, and the No 1 seed for the event is representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Clarke, who finished fifth in Thursday’s K1 singles final at Rio de Janeiro in 2016, had a better performance in kayak cross, which is debuting in Paris. He won his heat to advance to Sunday’s elimination races. Clarke emphasized the importance of a strong start and strategic approach to the race to secure a spot in the next round.
Additionally, Adam Burgess secured a spot in the next round after finishing second in his repechage race. Both Mallory Franklin and Kimberley Woods also qualified in the women’s division. Franklin expressed frustration after finishing last in the canoe slalom singles final at the Games, citing difficulties in maintaining a clean run and achieving optimal performance throughout the year. Despite feeling capable of winning a medal, Franklin acknowledged the challenges she faced and aimed to reset for future competitions.
