These protests come after 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana was charged with the murder of three girls in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport. The defendant is also charged with the attempted murder of several others, including children, and possession of a kitchen knife with a curved blade. He has been remanded to youth detention accommodation until his next court appearance in October.
The attack has led to incidents of violent disorder in some towns in England, with thousands attending a vigil in Southport to pay their respects to the victims. However, violence erupted outside a mosque in the town, resulting in injuries to 53 police officers and three police dogs. Subsequent protests in Whitehall and Hartlepool saw more than 100 protesters arrested, with bottles and cans thrown at police.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage faced criticism for insinuating that the truth about the identity of the attacker was being withheld from the public. He called for tougher measures, including increased use of stop and search, harsher prison sentences for knife carriers, and a reality check on the current situation. Farage warned that the recent rioting was just a preview of potential future unrest and emphasized the need for proper law and order enforcement.
