A GP has confessed to trying to kill his mother’s partner by pretending to be a nurse and giving him a fake Covid vaccine that caused a rare flesh-eating disease. The victim, Patrick O’Hara, suffered greatly as a result of the injection he received. The doctor, Thomas Kwan, initially denied the charges but changed his plea after hearing the evidence against him in court.
It was revealed that Kwan had an extensive knowledge of poisons and had planned the murder meticulously. Police found dangerous chemicals in his garage, and he had even forged NHS documents to gain access to O’Hara’s home. Despite the victim having done nothing to provoke Kwan, the doctor had a financial motive for his actions, as O’Hara’s presence posed a potential obstacle to his inheritance.
Kwan used a fake name, disguise, and false number plates to carry out the attack. He administered the fake vaccine to O’Hara, causing him intense pain and serious medical complications. The victim had to undergo surgery and spend weeks in intensive care as a result of the flesh-eating disease he contracted.
Following the incident, Kwan’s home was searched, and various chemicals were found, along with evidence of his strained relationship with his mother. He had resorted to spying on her to monitor her finances and had a history of violent outbursts when confronted about her will.
The court is set to sentence Kwan once his dangerousness has been assessed. The case sheds light on the shocking extent to which individuals may go to achieve their sinister motives, even at the expense of innocent lives. The betrayal of trust and the callousness of the doctor’s actions have left a lasting impact on all involved.
