The M25 motorway is currently facing closures between Surrey and Kent due to a lorry that caught fire. The incident occurred between junction 5 and junction 6, causing all clockwise lanes to be shut down. Drivers heading northwest towards West London are being urged to find alternative routes as the closure is expected to last until at least midday on Monday, according to National Highways.
Specialist recovery efforts will be needed for the burnt-out lorry, and the road surface may require resurfacing. Despite CCTV footage showing the heavy goods vehicle engulfed in flames, the cause of the fire remains unknown and fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Emergency services, including five fire engines and two water carriers from Surrey Fire and Rescue, responded to the scene. While the anti-clockwise carriageway has since reopened, lanes three and four within junction 6 remain closed. In addition, the M26 westbound near junction 2A and junction 5 connecting the M25 to the M26 and A21 have also been affected by closures.
For commuters, this means facing challenging Monday morning journeys and delays. It is advised to steer clear of the area and seek alternative routes to avoid being stuck in traffic. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops. Your patience and understanding are appreciated during this time of disruption on the M25.
