Lidl has announced its own Christmas truck tour that will travel throughout the UK this winter. The supermarket chain is getting into the holiday spirit by sending out a 20-metre, 15-tonne red truck wrapped in Lidl’s own Freeway cola label to various cities across the country. This tour will coincide with Coca-Cola’s own Christmas truck tour, bringing festive cheer to different locations.
The Lidl truck will be making stops in nine cities from November 14 to December 1. At each stop, the truck will set up pop-ups where over 2,000 gift boxes filled with items from Lidl’s popular “middle aisle” will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Additionally, lucky shoppers will have the chance to win £100 worth of food shopping and receive festive food goodies.
In addition to the Christmas truck tour, Lidl has announced plans to open 10 new stores in the UK before Christmas, aiming to attract more customers during the holiday season. The supermarket chain has also agreed to sell 12 new stores as part of a leaseback deal worth £70 million. With a current total of around 960 stores, Lidl is looking to expand to over 1,100 locations across England, Wales, and Scotland.
The expansion of Lidl’s stores this year will not only create approximately 400 new jobs but also reach more households with their affordable offerings. The new locations include areas like Bristol, Devon, Birmingham, and London, as well as the reopening of stores in various locations across the country.
Despite already being the sixth largest UK supermarket with an 8.1% market share, Lidl continues to grow and compete with other major retailers like Morrisons and Aldi. The company’s commitment to providing quality products at affordable prices has resonated with customers, leading to its success in the market.
As for Coca-Cola’s Christmas truck tour, more details will be released soon, including the schedule of locations. The company has also announced that it will donate 20p to food charity FareShare for every person who attends the truck tour between November 21 and December 22. This initiative aims to support those in need during the holiday season.
