A man has been found guilty of kidnapping, torturing, and murdering a well-known DJ in Tottenham. Mehmet Koray Alpergin and his girlfriend Gozde Dalbudak were abducted as they were returning home from a restaurant in Mayfair in October 2022. They were taken to a wine bar near Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where Mr. Alpergin was subjected to brutal violence, including beatings, scalding with boiling water, stabbing, and other horrific acts. His body was later found in woodland near Loughton, while Ms. Dalbudak was locked in a toilet for two days before being released.
Ms. Dalbudak, who has since returned to Turkey, recounted her boyfriend’s final words before he was killed. The court heard that Mr. Alpergin ran a Turkish language radio station in London and was well-known in the Turkish community. The prosecution claimed that a group of men orchestrated the kidnapping and murder, with some individuals driving to the scene in two vehicles equipped with a tracking device.
Two individuals, Dylan Weatherley and Isay Stoyanov, were found guilty of various charges related to the case. Weatherley was convicted of manslaughter, kidnapping, and false imprisonment, while Stoyanov was found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Another individual, Kyrie Mitchell-Peart, had previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Additional trials led to the conviction of four more men involved in the crime. These individuals were found guilty of various charges, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, manslaughter, and perverting the course of justice. All convicted individuals have been sentenced, except for two suspects who are still on the run.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb, who oversaw the investigation, expressed gratitude to Mr. Alpergin’s family for their support throughout the case. The pursuit of justice for the victims has been a lengthy process, but efforts to hold all accountable for the violence inflicted on Mr. Alpergin have been ongoing.
