Hillingdon Council has recently acquired two key sites in Hayes and Uxbridge to address the shortage of affordable housing in the area. The first site, Hyde Park Hayes 3 (HPH3 Hayes), located in Millington Road, will provide the council with 113 new properties to add to their housing stock. This acquisition was made possible with the help of funding from the Greater London Authority.
The second site, the former St Andrews RAF residential site in Grays Road, Uxbridge, offers future development potential for the council. Currently consisting of 89 derelict homes built between the 1920s and 1950s, this site gives the council the opportunity to explore plans for a range of homes, from one-bedroom apartments to large family-sized houses. Some of these properties will be available on the open market, while others will be let at London affordable rent prices.
By acquiring these two sites, the council aims to address the housing needs of residents at risk of homelessness who are currently living in temporary accommodation. These individuals will have the opportunity to move into more sustainable properties alongside eligible people on the council’s waiting list. Cllr Eddie Lavery, the Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, highlighted the importance of these acquisitions in reducing the housing waiting list and moving residents out of costly temporary accommodation.
The acquisition of HPH3 Hayes and the RAF Uxbridge site demonstrates the council’s commitment to taking innovative steps to tackle the housing shortage in Hillingdon. The council sees these sites as great opportunities to provide much-needed affordable housing to residents in the area. In addition to addressing the immediate housing needs of the community, the council also views the RAF Uxbridge site as an exciting long-term opportunity to restore a historic site that has been vacant since the 1990s.
Overall, the acquisition of these two sites represents a significant step forward in the council’s efforts to provide affordable housing options for residents in Hillingdon. By expanding their housing stock and exploring new development opportunities, the council is working towards creating a more sustainable and inclusive community for all residents.
