The heatwave in London shows no signs of letting up, with a yellow health alert being extended as temperatures continue to sizzle the city. The UKHSA has issued a warning that will be in effect from 9am today until 9am tomorrow, impacting not only London but also the south east of England, the east midlands, and the east of England.

Today, the Met Office predicts temperatures to soar to highs of 28 degrees in London around 4pm, with lows of 21 degrees expected at 11pm. The weather is expected to be sunny with some clouds throughout the day.

Tomorrow, temperatures are forecasted to be much cooler, with highs of 22 degrees at 4pm and 18 degrees at 6am. Rain is also expected from 11am to 7pm.

As the heatwave continues, the UKHSA warns of potential impacts on healthcare and social services, including increased healthcare service usage by the vulnerable population, a higher risk of death among vulnerable individuals, and the possibility of indoor spaces becoming excessively warm.

To stay safe during the heatwave, the UKHSA offers the following advice:

– Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm.
– Engage in physical activities during cooler times of the day.
– Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains.
– Wear appropriate clothing, hats, and sunglasses when outside.
– Stay hydrated and limit alcohol consumption.
– Check on at-risk individuals and know the signs of heat-related illnesses.

People at higher risk of becoming unwell in hot weather include older individuals, young children, those with underlying health conditions, individuals on certain medications, those with mental health issues, and people who are physically active or work outdoors.
