Notting Hill & Ealing High School recently celebrated its 150th anniversary with a unique and heartwarming initiative. The entire school, including every student, dedicated a day to volunteering in the community.
The students took part in various activities, such as visiting care homes, primary schools, and parks, totaling an impressive 3,500 hours of volunteer work in just one day. They engaged in 30 different community projects, spreading joy and kindness wherever they went.
One highlight of the day was the interaction between the students and elderly residents at care homes. They sang, entertained, and spent quality time chatting with the seniors. Additionally, Year 7 students showcased their artistic talents by creating 100 pieces of artwork for display.
Language skills were also put to good use as students shared their love for Spanish and French with younger children at neighboring primary schools. They led activities, performed plays, and supported reading sessions, fostering a love for languages among the younger students.
Furthermore, the students participated in environmental efforts by cleaning up 12 parks, weeding, and planting new greenery in collaboration with community groups. This hands-on approach to giving back to the environment highlights the school’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
Headmaster Matthew Shoults expressed his admiration for the students’ enthusiasm and dedication to volunteering. He emphasized the importance of giving back to others and how it contributes to building a sense of well-being within individuals.
The volunteering day also welcomed visitors from various organizations, such as Ealing Mencap and Care4Calais, where students engaged in activities like crafting, gift wrapping, and preparing essential items for those in need. The spirit of generosity and compassion was evident throughout the day.
Sophie Johnson, the teacher of PRE and charities co-ordinator, played a key role in organizing the initiative. She was delighted to see the entire school community come together to make a positive impact. The students and staff shared stories of their experiences and the connections they made with people in the community, reflecting on the meaningful interactions they had.
