Driver Crashes During Police Chase Due to Seatbelt Violation
In a shocking turn of events, a dangerous and disqualified driver found himself in a police chase that ended in a crash. The driver, 33-year-old Bobby Parr, was being pursued by officers due to a simple seatbelt violation, but what followed was a series of reckless actions that put lives at risk.
The Chase
It all started when PC Haddon Smith spotted Parr driving a Land Rover Discovery in the Balderton area of Nottingham. Instead of pulling over for not wearing a seatbelt, Parr decided to speed away, overtaking and undertaking other vehicles at alarming speeds of up to 70mph in 30mph zones. He even went as far as running red lights and dangerously driving on the pavement to avoid traffic.
Minutes later, the inevitable happened – Parr lost control of his vehicle on a bend along Lowfield Lane, ultimately crashing into a ditch. This dangerous sequence of events could have easily resulted in a tragedy, all because of a simple seatbelt violation.
Legal Consequences
Following the crash, Parr was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He pleaded guilty to these charges in court on 15 May. As a result, he was sentenced to 13 months in jail by the Nottingham Crown Court on 26 November. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of reckless driving and the importance of following traffic laws.
