You’ve probably heard of Shazam, the app that helps you identify songs playing around you. But TikTok is stepping up its game with a new feature that lets you find songs by singing them.
TikTok has introduced a feature called “Sound Search,” which allows users to discover songs by singing, humming, or playing them. Since TikTok is all about videos, the app will also show popular videos that feature the identified song.
Interestingly, while TikTok initially said that Sound Search was designed for finding songs, it can also identify popular sounds and memes. In our testing, we found that the tool could detect TikTok sounds like the “Oh my gosh, she’s bald” sound from “Totally Spies” and the “Nobody’s gonna know” sound created by a user.
To access the feature, users can tap on the microphone icon in the Search Tab of the TikTok app. However, Sound Search is currently only available to a limited number of users, and there’s no information on which regions have access to it.
Unlike Apple’s Shazam, which can’t identify hummed songs, an update last year allowed it to recognize songs playing in apps like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
To use TikTok’s new feature, make sure you have the latest version of the app installed on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 or later. The app is free to download from the App Store.
In other TikTok news, the platform recently lost a legal battle in Europe and may face bans in the US and EU. Additionally, TikTok Studio has been launched to help creators manage their accounts, and some users can now upload 60-minute videos, introducing long-form content to the app.
