Hillingdon is hosting its annual Heritage Open Days festival, starting on September 6. Venues such as Manor Farm in Ruislip, Cranford Park, Eastcote House Gardens, and the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge will be offering free events for the public to enjoy.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the opening of the Generator House at the Battle of Britain Centre in Uxbridge on September 22. This will be the first time the public will have access to this historic building, which provided power to the bunker during World War Two. Visitors can see the 1930s standby generator and other equipment that have been preserved since the RAF Uxbridge era.

For those who prefer outdoor activities, a scavenger hunt will be held at Cranford Park on September 7 from midday to 4pm. Participants can explore the park, collect stamps, answer questions, and play mini games. Game sheets and maps can be picked up from the Stable Courtyard without the need for prior booking.

Visitors to Manor Farm in Ruislip can learn about the nature and history of the River Pinn on September 8. A nature walk along the riverbanks will kick off the day at 11am, followed by a talk on the river’s past by historian Sam Brummage at 2pm. Youngsters can also enjoy pond dipping from 1-3pm.

Other Heritage Open Days events in Hillingdon include activities at the Great Barn in Harmondsworth on September 14 and Eastcote House Gardens on September 15.
