Children between the ages of 4 and 11 are encouraged to participate in the Hillingdon Summer Reading Challenge with the theme of Marvellous Makers. This challenge aims to celebrate creativity and inspire children to unleash their imaginations through the power of reading. The Summer Reading Challenge is a national program that motivates children to continue reading during the school holidays.

To take part in the challenge, children must visit their local library to register. Upon registration, they will receive a folder to keep track of their reading progress. In order to successfully complete the challenge, participants must borrow books at least four times throughout the holiday period. As children make progress, they can collect stickers and will be awarded a certificate and a medal upon completion.

Kids can join the challenge anytime between July 6 and September 14 by visiting https://discover.hillingdon.gov.uk/summer-reading. An exciting event to look forward to is The Imagination Station, which will be held at Manor Farm in Ruislip on August 15 from 10am to 4pm. This free drop-in day will feature craft activities, story time sessions, fitness, and art activities.

Additionally, Hillingdon Council is seeking volunteers aged 14 and above to assist with this year’s events. Those interested in volunteering can find more information at www.hillingdon.gov.uk/src-volunteers. It’s a great opportunity for young people to get involved and contribute to the community while having fun.

The Summer Reading Challenge not only promotes literacy but also fosters creativity and imagination in children. By engaging in this initiative, kids can develop a love for reading and storytelling while enjoying a variety of fun activities. Encouraging children to read during the summer break helps prevent the loss of academic skills and prepares them for the upcoming school year. So, parents, don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to keep your children engaged and inspired throughout the holidays. Sign them up for the Hillingdon Summer Reading Challenge today!
