All the children who were injured in the tragic Southport attack last Monday have been discharged from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, according to a recent statement from the hospital. The attack resulted in the death of three children, and left five others in critical condition, while three additional children were injured. The two adults who were trying to protect the children also sustained injuries during the incident.

The hospital expressed their relief in announcing that all the children who were under their care have now been discharged and sent home safely. They took the opportunity to thank all those involved in responding to the incident, including NHS staff, Merseyside Police, and North West Ambulance Service. The hospital also extended their gratitude to everyone who sent well-wishes and support to both Alder Hey and the families affected by the tragedy.

In response to the attack, hundreds of people gathered for a peaceful vigil in Southport a week after the incident. Children at the vigil blew bubbles, while others left flowers and heart-shaped balloons in memory of the victims. Local shops, arcades, charities, and families of the victims donated many of the bubbles used during the event. Additionally, teddy bears, toys, and other gifts were left as tributes to the victims.

During the vigil, many children were seen dressed in pink, with some leaving chalk messages on the pavement outside The Atkinson arts centre in Southport town centre. The community came together to show support and honor the lives lost in the tragic attack.

Axel Rudakubana, who is accused of the stabbings, has had reporting restrictions lifted by Judge Andrew Menary KC. This decision was made to prevent the spread of misinformation after a false name circulated online, leading to disorder and violence in Southport. Rudakubana is due to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 25 October at Liverpool Crown Court, with a provisional trial date set for 20 January next year.

The incident in Southport has deeply impacted the community, and the support shown at the vigil demonstrates the resilience and unity of the people in the face of tragedy. The healing process for those affected will be ongoing, but the strength and solidarity exhibited by the community provide hope for the future.
