Carrie Fisher’s iconic gold bikini worn by her character Princess Leia in ‘Return of the Jedi’ has been sold at an auction for an impressive £136,000. This outfit is well-known among Star Wars fans as it was worn by Princess Leia when she was held captive by Jabba the Hutt.

In the movie, Jabba captured Princess Leia after she attempted to rescue Han Solo. The memorable scene where Leia strangles Jabba with the chain around her neck while wearing the gold bikini is one of the most controversial moments in the film due to the sexualized portrayal.

The outfit consists of a bikini top, bikini plates, hip rings, an armlet, and a bracelet. Created by Star Wars concept sculptor Richard Miller, the garment was auctioned at the Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The auction house confirmed the sale, stating that the gold bikini was sold for $175,000 and comes with a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lorne Peterson, who hired chief sculptor Richard Miller to create Leia’s costume.

In an interview before her death in 2016, Carrie Fisher mentioned that she felt “nearly naked” and very nervous wearing the gold bikini, as it was not a style choice she would typically make. Despite her initial reservations, the gold bikini has become an iconic piece of cinematic history.

Additionally, at the same auction, a miniature of a Y-Wing starfighter ship from ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ sold for an impressive £1.21 million after a bidding war. This ship was “flown” by Gold Leader, who assisted Luke Skywalker in a mission to destroy the Death Star.

The auction of these Star Wars memorabilia items showcases the enduring popularity and significance of the franchise among fans and collectors. It also highlights the emotional connection that fans have with iconic pieces from beloved films.
