Hello everyone, I am Fumihiko Yasuda, the Development Producer/Director from Team Ninja, the creator of Rise of the Ronin, an open-world action RPG set in 19th-century Japan. We are thrilled to see so many players enjoying the game since its release on March 22, 2024. We have gathered interesting play data from players all over the world, and I would like to share some insights into the choices they have been making in Rise of the Ronin.

Story Choices

One of the first decisions players face in the game is after the battle with Gonzo. Players have the option to make different choices, each with its own benefits. It is recommended to explore both options to see how the story unfolds. Surprisingly, many players have chosen the anti-Shogunate faction at Mibu-dera Temple, despite the presence of the pro-Shogunate faction led by the Shinsengumi. Meeting characters like Ryoma Sakamoto early in the game may have influenced players to align with the anti-Shogunate faction. For those curious about different outcomes, you can revisit past missions through the Testament of the Soul in the Longhouse.

Forging Your Fate

Bonding with characters is a key theme in Rise of the Ronin. Strengthening bonds with characters leads to various benefits, such as learning new combat styles and unlocking new dialogues. The Veiled Vow is a special relationship status that can only be formed with certain characters. Some players have formed this special bond with multiple characters, adding depth to their gameplay experience.

Combat

The use of Countersparks in battles can disrupt the opponent’s posture, but mistiming it can leave you vulnerable. It offers both advantages and disadvantages, making it a strategic choice in battles against formidable foes. It is interesting to note that over 1.9 billion Countersparks have been performed by players. Additionally, the game offers a variety of difficulty settings to cater to different player skill levels. The highest difficulty setting, Midnight, unlocks after completing the main story, providing a challenge for seasoned players.

World Exploration

Players who have completed the cat collection trophy may miss encountering new cats while exploring the world. However, they can now find cats at various shrines and Usugumo Dayu’s place. In a recent update, players can pet the collected cats near Usugumo Dayu as much as they want, adding a fun element to the exploration. The fugitives in the game are not just enemies but skilled characters with diverse backgrounds, reflecting the ronin spirit of the Bakumatsu era. Each fugitive has been carefully designed by our development team, from their names to their weapons and combat styles, adding depth to the game’s narrative.

Free Demo Now Available

For players who have completed the game or are looking to try it out, a free playable demo of Rise of the Ronin is now available on the PlayStation Store. The demo allows players to experience the battle with Gonzo and carry over their save data to the full game. Whether you are a seasoned player or new to the game, we encourage you to explore the rich world of Rise of the Ronin and enjoy the various paths and challenges it offers.
