My cousin and I decided to try out one of Richmond’s newest restaurants, Cocotte on Hill Street, on a rainy day. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received from the staff and the inviting interior of the restaurant.
The menu at Cocotte offers a wide variety of options, but we decided to start with crispy pesto halloumi and crisp chicken tenders, both of which were delicious and came with Cocotte’s special tomato sauce. The manager, Amani, described the tomato sauce as “like ketchup, but better,” and she was right. It was sweet, fresh, homemade, and absolutely delicious.
As a sauce enthusiast, I was excited to try Cocotte’s other sauces, like the signature Cocotte mustard and garlic mayo, and they did not disappoint. For our main course, we both opted for burgers. I chose the Crispy Chicken Burger, which was made with panko parmesan breaded chicken thigh, Monterey Jack cheese, pickled red cabbage, gherkin, and Alabama sauce. It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, with a soft bun and juicy fillings.
My cousin ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger, which was made with beef, bacon, cheese, onions, and house sauce. He raved about how delicious it was, and his facial expression after the first bite said it all. We also made sure to save room for dessert and tried the chocolate hazelnut tart and Mont Blanc, both of which were heavenly.
Overall, our experience at Cocotte was fantastic, and I believe it will become a favorite in the community. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to try something new in Richmond. Special thanks to the manager and our waitress, Amani, for their kindness, knowledge, and infectious personality that added to our experience. Our visit to Cocotte on a Monday was a perfect start to the week.
