HBO has begun the search for young actors to play the iconic roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in its upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The casting call is open to children aged 9-11 in April 2025 from the UK and Ireland, with a focus on diversity and inclusivity.
Fans spotted the casting notice, which HBO has confirmed as genuine. The network is dedicated to casting a wide range of performers, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or other factors protected by law. The casting process requires applicants to submit two short self-tapes, showcasing their creativity and personality.
The first self-tape should feature a short poem or story, not from the Harry Potter series, lasting no longer than 30 seconds. The second tape should be a one-minute video introducing themselves, sharing personal details like date of birth, height, and a special connection to a family member, friend, or pet.
The deadline for submissions is October 31, with filming scheduled to take place in the UK from 2025 to 2026. While HBO has not announced an exact release date, Warner Bros has hinted at a 2026 premiere. The series is anticipated to span seven seasons, each adapting one of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books.
Despite speculation, there is no indication that the original Harry Potter film cast will make cameo appearances in the series. Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter in the films, has previously expressed reluctance to return to the role, deeming it “weird.”
