Dementia-friendly opera is coming to Ealing next month, and it’s completely free to attend. The event, taking place on September 6 at the University of West London, is a collaborative production by the Music Troupe, the London College of Music, and the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory.

Following the success of a similar event last year, this opera aims to promote social connections that have been proven to enhance the quality of life for older individuals and reduce the risk of dementia. The performance will feature two short chamber pieces, presented in their entirety as they will be later in the year in traditional theatres.

The Music Troupe has a vision of bringing opera to new audiences in more intimate settings, moving away from the conventional theatre venues. This inclusive performance is open to everyone and will be presented in a way that is welcoming to all audience members.

What sets this event apart is the venue staff, who will include professionals with experience in working with individuals living with dementia. In addition, there will be first aiders and trained volunteers on hand to assist throughout the performance.

If you’re interested in attending this unique and engaging opera experience, mark your calendar for September 6 at Lawrence Hall on St Mary’s Road in Ealing. The performance will run from 3-4.30pm, with doors opening at 2.30pm. Be sure to reserve your free tickets in advance to secure your spot at this special event.
