We’re well into 2024 now, and it has been an exciting year for TVs. While Samsung and LG have improved their OLED TVs, we are here to talk about Mini LED. This year, Mini LED technology is being positioned as a high-end alternative to OLED, with Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic all jumping on board.

Samsung’s QN95D Mini LED TV is competing with the S95D QD-OLED, while Sony has made Mini LED a focal point in its 2024 lineup with the Bravia 9. Panasonic is also showcasing its W95A Mini LED TV more prominently. I have tested the Samsung and Sony TVs and believe they are important players in the Mini LED market this year.

Both TVs received four-star ratings in our reviews, which may seem critical, but it still means we would recommend them in many cases. Sony had some picture quirks that held it back from greatness, especially in handling high-brightness content. On the other hand, the Samsung struggled with bright content against dark backgrounds, showing a halo effect.

While OLED TVs still have an edge in terms of deep blacks and contrast, Mini LED technology is evolving. Sony’s new backlight for the Bravia 9 is a step forward, and future Mini LED TVs may address current issues. The competition between Mini LED and OLED is ongoing, and the next Mini LED TV could change the game.

In conclusion, while OLED TVs currently offer better black levels and colors, Mini LED technology has the potential to catch up. Keep an eye out for advancements in Mini LED TVs, as the battle between the two technologies is far from over.
