AMD was all set to release its highly anticipated Zen 5 processors, including the Ryzen 9 9950X, on July 31st. However, there has been a slight delay in the launch due to some cautionary measures taken by the company. Instead of the original launch date, the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X will now be released on August 8th, while the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X will hit the market on August 15th.
The reason behind this delay, according to AMD spokesperson Stacy MacDiarmid, is not due to any issues with the chips themselves. Rather, it was discovered that some of the chips did not undergo all necessary testing procedures. As a result, AMD decided to recall the initial production units and replace them with fresh units to ensure the highest quality experience for users.
Jack Huynh, AMD’s Senior Vice President of Computing and Graphics, expressed appreciation for the excitement surrounding the Ryzen 9000 series processors. He emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a high-quality experience for every Ryzen user and assured that the delay is solely for precautionary reasons.
It is understandable why AMD is being extra cautious, especially considering the recent issues faced by rival Intel with its 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors. Intel’s Core i9-13900K and i9-14900K have been experiencing instability, with a patch expected in August. Additionally, there is no fix for already unstable chips, which will need to be returned to Intel.
In addition to the desktop processors, AMD is also gearing up to launch its Zen 5 laptop chips, codenamed Strix Point. The Ryzen AI 9 300 lineup includes the Ryzen AI 9 HX 375, featuring a powerful 55 TOPS NPU for enhanced performance.
Overall, while the delay in the Ryzen 9000 series processors may be disappointing for some, it is reassuring to see AMD prioritizing quality and ensuring a seamless user experience. The company’s commitment to delivering high-performance processors remains unwavering, and fans can look forward to an exceptional experience with the new Ryzen lineup.
