Ken Guy, a former Mayor of Hillingdon, recently celebrated his 100th birthday at Ryefield Court in Ryefield Avenue. Surrounded by family and close friends, the centenarian marked this remarkable milestone in style with a big bash at the Berkley Care Group home.
Born in Fulham, Ken moved to Eastcote with his parents as a child. He attended Acton Technical College in 1937 and later worked at Joseph Lucas Aerospace Company. Despite not being called up for military service due to a medical test failure and being in a reserved occupation, Ken led a fulfilling life.
Ken lived in Birmingham for nine years with his wife, Gwendoline, where their three children were born. After moving to Ruislip in 2022, Ken became actively involved in local affairs through the residents’ association and Ruislip Conservative Association. He served as a councillor for Ruislip Ward and later for St Martin’s Ward, eventually becoming the Mayor of Hillingdon in 1989.
Throughout his years of service, Ken was dedicated to various causes, including the Child Accident Prevention Trust, where he volunteered until 2014. He also served as a governor for several schools and was involved in town twinning and race relations.
Ken and Gwen became residents of Ryefield Court in March 2021, but sadly, Gwen passed away in May the following year. Despite this loss, Ken’s 100th birthday celebration was a joyous occasion, with a special visit from the current Deputy Mayor, Cllr Phillip Corthorne, who brought flowers and a personal card.
The care home’s eighth birthday was also celebrated recently, with a visit from the current Mayor, Cllr Colleen Sullivan. The event was a testament to Ken’s enduring legacy and the impact he has had on the community throughout his long and illustrious life. Cheers to Ken Guy on his 100th birthday and many more years of happiness and health ahead!
