Nine final-year Music Performance students at the London College of Music, part of the University of West London, Ealing, recently showcased their Advanced Performance Projects. The performances took place in the university’s Lawrence Hall and Vestry Hall, marking the culmination of their BMus (Hons) studies. These projects are specifically designed for classical or jazz instrumentalists and singers who aspire to pursue professional careers in the music industry.
One of the standout performances was by viola player Hyomin Park, whose project titled “From Romantic to Modern; Lighting the Musical Path” was accompanied by lecturer Emilie Capulet. Another impressive performance was by Mong-Tin Bai, who presented “Harmony across genres: Copland to Hiromi” on the clarinet.
Fiona Griffin also delivered a captivating performance titled “Contemporary repetition: a modern take on acoustic and electric violin,” accompanied by lecturer Emanuele Mollica. Joseph Callow’s project, “Trumpet on canvas,” combined music and art in an evening dedicated to the trumpet, with accompaniment from Sally Goodworth.
Samantha Shaw’s performance titled “A drummer’s perspective on musical theatre” featured music from popular musicals like Six, Hairspray, Into the Heights, and Pippin. Peter Rudnick, Senior Lecturer in Music Performance, commended the students for showcasing their skills and knowledge gained throughout the course, which includes elements of music business and event management.
The students not only demonstrated their musical talents but also their ability to promote themselves as solo artists or ensembles. These performances serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication put forth by the students throughout their academic journey.
