Have you ever found yourself cancelling a long-awaited Christmas gathering at the last minute due to a busy schedule, unexpected commitments, or falling ill?

If so, you’re not alone. A recent survey conducted by Costa Coffee revealed that almost a third of Brits (30%) end up cancelling their Christmas social plans, with the main reason being a lack of time. Juggling work, family responsibilities, and other commitments can make it difficult to find a moment to meet up with friends for a festive catch-up.

Despite the necessity of cancelling plans, many of us (33%) end up regretting missing out on those precious moments with loved ones. Costa Coffee aims to make it easier for people to reconnect with their friends and family during the holiday season by providing a warm and festive space for Christmas catch-ups.

The survey also found that most people (70%) wish to dedicate a full hour to a meaningful face-to-face catch-up, with a quarter of respondents preferring to keep mobile phones away to ensure a quality conversation. Topics such as family news (60%) and relationship updates (44%) were highlighted as important aspects of a good catch-up.

To encourage these valuable interactions, Costa Coffee is offering coffee lovers the chance to win the “Ultimate Costa Christmas Catch-Up Card,” which grants 60 complimentary drinks. To participate in the draw, customers can access the prize exclusively through the Costa Club app.

While technology has made it easier for us to stay connected through messages and video calls, the survey revealed that spontaneous face-to-face catch-ups bring a sense of joy and nostalgia that cannot be replicated digitally. Dr Simon Moore, a psychologist, emphasised the importance of in-person interactions in maintaining meaningful relationships.

Costa Coffee’s research showed that Brits enjoy meeting up with loved ones in social settings like coffee shops (45%) and pubs (47%), highlighting the significance of environment in fostering connections. A Costa Coffee spokesperson encouraged people to take advantage of the festive season to catch up with friends and family over a seasonal treat.

Whether reuniting with an old friend, a colleague, or a family member, Costa Coffee aims to facilitate heartwarming Christmas catch-ups and create lasting memories during the holiday season. So, why not step out of the house and enjoy a cup of coffee with your loved ones this Christmas?
