The Hillingdon Council is set to receive a significant boost of £1.3m from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), leading to exciting developments in leisure centres and public spaces across the borough. This funding will not only enhance the quality of leisure facilities but also provide support for dedicated volunteers who contribute to maintaining the community’s green spaces.
One of the key areas of focus for the funding is the improvement of leisure centres and public spaces in Hayes and West Drayton. In Hayes, the money will be used to enhance the surroundings of Hayes station, while in West Drayton, a rooftop artificial football pitch will be installed as part of the new Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre. These developments aim to provide residents with modern and attractive recreational spaces to enjoy.
Moreover, several children’s play areas in Cranford Park, Stockley Recreation Ground, Fassnidge Park, and Ruislip Lido have been upgraded with the latest equipment. Wooden equipment has been specifically incorporated into Cranford Park to complement the natural woodland setting, creating a unique and engaging play environment for children.
In addition to these improvements, enhancements to Shenley Park in Ruislip Manor and Hayes End Community Park are nearing completion and are expected to be finished by March. The council is also focusing on enhancing the borough’s green spaces by planting new wildflower meadows and more than 700 young trees, contributing to the overall aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability of Hillingdon.
Furthermore, the UKSPF funding has provided support to volunteers such as the Woodlarks and Waders group, who play a crucial role in maintaining Highgrove Woods in Eastcote and the nearby waterways. Jess Lee, a member of the group, expressed their gratitude for the funding, highlighting the positive impact it has on their work and the community as a whole. The funding goes beyond providing tools and equipment; it serves as a “magic wand” that brings joy and vitality to everyone involved.
