A student studying to become a doctor at Brunel University in Uxbridge has received recognition for her work in highlighting the new Medical Licensing Assessment. Eshwa Zahra, a 20-year-old third-year student originally from New Delhi, created an animated video to showcase the purpose and importance of the exam.

The General Medical Council and the Medical Schools Council organised a national competition for medical students to create social media posts, podcasts, or blogs discussing the introduction of the new assessment. This assessment aims to provide patients and employers with more confidence in newly registered doctors by testing their knowledge, skills, and behaviours necessary for safe medical practice.

Starting from this academic year, all medical students graduating from UK universities must pass this assessment before they can join the register. Eshwa’s video, which emphasised the significance of the exam in ensuring the core competencies required for safe medical practice, will be shared with medical schools across the UK as an educational resource.

Aside from her interest in research and surgery, Eshwa is looking forward to exploring various medical specialties as she progresses through her studies. Her dedication and creativity in producing the informative video have earned her £300 in vouchers as a prize for winning the competition.

This achievement not only reflects Eshwa’s talent and commitment to her medical education but also highlights the importance of effective communication in the field of healthcare. By creating engaging content to explain complex topics such as the Medical Licensing Assessment, students like Eshwa contribute to raising awareness and understanding among their peers, future colleagues, and patients.

As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, initiatives like the new assessment play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of medical practice and ensuring the safety of patients. Eshwa’s success in effectively communicating the purpose of this exam serves as a testament to the dedication and innovation of aspiring healthcare professionals in embracing changes in the field.

Through her video, Eshwa has not only demonstrated her understanding of the significance of the Medical Licensing Assessment but has also showcased her ability to engage and educate others through creative means. As she continues her journey towards becoming a qualified doctor, her passion for learning and her commitment to excellence will undoubtedly make a positive impact in the medical field.
