The Met Office has dismissed claims of a four-day arctic blast hitting the UK at the end of the month. They stated that there are no signs of snow across the country, and temperatures are expected to remain average for this time of year. Despite earlier reports suggesting up to 30 centimeters of snow and temperatures as low as -6C by November 20th, the Met Office spokesperson, Stephen Dixon, clarified that there is no snow in the current forecast period.
Instead, the upcoming days will see a change in weather, with cloudy conditions breaking up to bring sunny skies across much of the UK on Monday. This shift may bring chillier conditions, but many will welcome the return of the sun after a gloomy start to November. Dixon also mentioned the possibility of unsettled weather in northwestern parts of the country in the second half of November, potentially spreading further south at times. Temperatures are expected to hover around average, with occasional cooler periods.
Reports of heavy snow were based on data from the website WXCharts, which visualizes various weather models from forecasters worldwide. However, it’s crucial to note that a single weather model is not a forecast. The Met Office, for example, runs numerous weather models to predict future patterns accurately. While the data from WXCharts was not false, it is inaccurate to present a single weather model as a forecast.
Looking at the five-day forecast, most areas in the UK will experience a dry but cloudy and cool day, with the likelihood of hill fog in some places. Breezy conditions and patchy drizzle are expected in the west. Northern Scotland might see some sunshine, with occasional brighter breaks in other regions. The night will remain cloudy with hill fog and patchy light rain or drizzle, leading to a patchy frost formation in northern Scotland.
Saturday will bring another gray day with light rain or drizzle in some areas, while northern Scotland continues to enjoy sunshine. Brighter spells may develop elsewhere. As for the outlook from Sunday to Tuesday, a band of light rain will move southeastwards, paving the way for drier, sunnier, and cooler weather at the start of the week. Patchy fog and frost may also be observed during this period.
