Residents in Hillingdon are being urged to nominate individuals or groups who make a difference in their communities for the Hillingdon Community Award. The initiative, organised by Hillingdon Council, aims to recognise those unsung heroes who go above and beyond to support others.
Nominations for the awards, now in their fourth year, opened on the 28th of January. Whether it’s someone who has shown exceptional bravery or consistently lends a helping hand to those in need, it’s easy to nominate them for their efforts.
While individuals can be nominated, the awards also highlight the contributions of community groups like the Friends of Northwood Recreation Ground, who received a bronze award last year for their dedication to conservation and maintenance work.
Ben Rawson-Jones from the Friends group expressed their gratitude for the recognition, stating that receiving an award from the council for their efforts to enhance green spaces was a great honour. He hopes that this acknowledgment will encourage others to get involved and make a positive impact as well.
The award categories include Bravery, Helping the Community, Helping Vulnerable People, and Promoting Health and Wellbeing. Winners will be announced in March and honoured at a ceremony at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge on Wednesday, April 16.
Council leader Ian Edwards praised the selfless individuals who contribute their time and energy to improve the lives of others in Hillingdon. He acknowledged that these unsung heroes play a vital role in making the community a better place for everyone to live and thrive.
The deadline for nominations is midnight on Monday, February 17. Nomination forms can be accessed online at www.hillingdon.gov.uk/community-awards-nomination or picked up from any Hillingdon library or the Civic Centre.
It’s important to recognise and celebrate those who make a difference in our communities, as their efforts often go unnoticed. By shining a spotlight on these unsung heroes, we not only show our appreciation for their hard work but also inspire others to follow their lead and contribute to the well-being of our society. So, don’t hesitate to nominate someone who deserves to be acknowledged for their positive impact in Hillingdon. Together, we can create a more supportive and thriving community for all.
